New generation servo motors for robotics and mechatronics will be about three times lighter and smaller than the current ones, they will receive a control system from a Russian developer. A prototype will be shown in 2023.
Russian manufacturers have begun to create a new series of sEM servo motors using their own innovative technologies. This was reported to a MASHNEWS correspondent on October 17 by the head of the Elektromoment project, the general director of EME Laboratory LLC, Mikhail Esakov.
According to the head, the development of design estimates has already reached the finish line, and testing of a prototype will soon begin, which can be seen next year.
Advanced servos are a kind of “smart” motors that can control their own work. They will be in demand in such domestic industries as robotics, as well as mechatronics, which studies computer motion control.
From the “teaser” of 2021 to the technological breakthrough of 2023
Having studied the current state and potential of the Russian market of robotics and machine tools, the Russian group of companies Electromoment is now developing a new specialized series of sEM servo drives. And if the first such iEM-025 series became the pilot “teaser” of the 2021 group, then the new development promises to be a breakthrough in 2023.
According to project manager Mikhail Esakov, the vast majority of electric motors for servo drives, both Russian and foreign, currently offered in Russia, have mediocre power characteristics, making the servo drive too bulky and expensive.
“This state of affairs is one of the significant obstacles to the development of Russian robotics and mechatronics, preventing domestic manufacturers of robots and machine tools not only from entering the market with competitive exportable products, but also, in principle, producing products for the Russian market under sanctions” , — says the expert.
Experience and creativity drive new solutions
The promising technologies of the Elektromoment group of companies – and Alexei Rogozin, head of the ANO Center for the Development of Transport Technologies, considers them one of the best engine manufacturers in the world – have already demonstrated efficiency and competitiveness in electric machines being created for various sectors of the economy.
This allows you to transfer the existing experience and design solutions to the creation of specialized servo drives and actuators.
“Moreover, we have developments in the field of specialized servo drives: we already have a series of universal iEM electric motors, on the basis of which you can create powerful servo drives with record characteristics in their class,” Esakov noted.
This allowed the group of companies to start a substantive dialogue with interested companies and contractors. Now she has received a fairly large amount of detailed information from market players, which will soon allow her to present a new series of sEM electric motors and promising servo drives based on them, including for the mass segment.
A complex of advantages speaks for development
The servo motors of the new, specialized sEM series will be different from the universal iEM series. A number of features have been improved:
- weight and dimensions are 2–4 times smaller than existing Russian and foreign analogues;
- hollow shaft with spline connection and interchangeable flange adapters;
- liquid and air-cooled versions;
- degree of import substitution for servomotors — at least 80%;
- control system – from a Russian developer.
Given the low material consumption and higher manufacturability of mass production relative to traditional products, sEM series servo motors should adequately withstand price competition, the authors of the project believe.
MASHNEWS HELP:
Servo motors, they are also called servos and servos (from the Latin servus: servant, assistant), are a system of a motor, a tracking sensor and a control unit with an internal feedback channel. The product is automatically an accurate performer. Receiving the necessary operation parameters at the input, it “independently”, based on the sensor readings, adheres to the optimal scheme of actions. A kind of “intellectual engine” that controls itself.
